Ankle Braces weaken the ankle: Myth or Fact?

Myth is the answer. Now I will explain to you why.

What weakens the ankle?

Any joint or muscle that is either immobilized, not used or receives very little usage is prone to weaken. A cast or brace that partially or completely immobilizes the ankle would weaken the joint.

The ASO ankle brace does not weaken any joint or muscles because it allows normal motion while inhibiting motion beyond what is normal. The brace is usually worn during practices or games.

The ASO ankle brace prevents most sprains and the few that get a sprain will have a much reduced sprain compared to taping alone; especially if the ankle was not braced or taped.

Another common way weakening the ankle is a severe ankle injury when you are not wearing an ankle brace. Now your ankle will weaken in a big way from non use stemming from wearing a cast, immobilizing brace or worse of all being laid up for a long time before and after surgery.

Most Professional Football and Basketball teams use ankle braces and most large Universities choose the ASO ankle brace for Football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball along with Volleyball. Obviously Sports Doctors, Trainers and Coaches know that the ASO brace does not weaken ankle joints however it does eliminate most sprains and reduces the severity of the sprain in others.

We got the numbers back on our 2009 sales and I’m glad to say we did show some growth.  It was only about 7%, but I think considering the economy this is actually pretty good.   As one of my friends always says; If your business isn’t growing, its dying.  I don’t know if I quite agree with that statement, but it certainly feels good knowing that we are still in this.  We have begun looking at doing a whole redesign of our site, to make it look more professional.  We also want to streamline the checkout process and make it more user friendly.  Another project on the horizon is some SEO (search engine optimization) work.  We recently lost our #1 spot in Google for our best search term ASO Ankle Brace and were going to have to do some fighting to get back up there.  All in all though, I think everyone here at Achillesmed.com has a good year ahead of them.

Lately we have had a couple of customers order one of our UPS options, ie: Next Day Air, Second Day Air… One in particular had ordered on Friday and selected Air Over Night, thinking they would get the brace on Saturday. Unfortunately UPS doesn’t consider Saturdays or Sundays as shipping days. Its only regular week days that count (excluding holidays as well). So when they didn’t get there brace on Saturday they were upset. We just want to make sure that everyone understands that weekends are not counted in there shipping times so that we don’t run into these issues anymore. So if you order one of our expedited shipping options, make sure you take into account that only weekdays are considered shipping days.

On a side note, the Post Office does consider Saturdays shipping days. So you may very well receive your order on a Saturday if you select our free shipping option that ships USPS.

Its another year down at Achillesmed.com. Despite the economy, we are still going strong and our sales even grew compared to last year. Hopefully that is a trend that continues through 2010. We tribute this to our exemplary service and all the hard work we do. To date we are at a 99.999% success rate for getting our orders out on time and into our customers hands as quick as possible. It was a sad day when we had to remove our free shipping policy here, but times are changing once again and we are able to offer free shipping on all of our orders.  Anything under $50 will go 1st class and anything over will be sent priority mall.  As usual, all orders will also be shipped the same day as long as we recieve it before 4 PM CST.  Sometimes if we receive a next day air order we will even go out of our way to drop it off at UPS after our cut off time too.
